How to download Java on Windows 7 ?

You might first want to check if Java is already installed on your system. To do this go to Start menu and type cmd in the search bar and press Enter to go to command prompt.

Type the following command and press Enter in command prompt window :

> java --version

If your screen looks similar to this screenshot, your system has Java already installed.

Otherwise, if the output is like this, you need to download and install Java:

Step 1

Go to Java’s official website : Click here.

Step 2

Click on the Download button

Step 3

On the next screen, click the same button to Agree and Start Download.

Step 4

You will see a save file dialog box. Save the installer file and run it once it is downloaded.

Step 5

Once the installation is done, you will see a success dialog box.

Here is a catch !

Just by downloading and installing the Java you might not be able to run it. You need to setup Java environment variables before you start working on Java.

Go to Java installation path on your PC and copy the path. On most Windows PCs, this would be :

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_231\bin

Caution

Please note that you should go the path yourself in Windows Explorer and copy the path from Address Bar. The path would be different for every Java version.

Step 6

Now go to System Properties

Step 7

Click on Advanced System Settings

Step 8

Click on Environment Variables button

Step 9

In System variables section, scroll down to Path variable and click on Edit button

Step 10

Append the path that you copied earlier in Step 5 and click OK.

Caution

Do not forget to put a semicolon ‘;’ before appending the copied path to separate it from the previous text.

You are now all set with Java. You can cross check if the Java is installed properly by using the same command we used earlier i.e.

> java --version

All the best !
